Drinking heavy water (D2O), which contains a higher proportion of deuterium than regular water (H2O), is not recommended. While small amounts of heavy water are naturally present in ordinary water, consuming significant quantities of heavy water can have harmful effects on the body.

Heavy water is chemically similar to regular water but can interfere with biological processes because of its different isotopic composition. Drinking large quantities of heavy water can disrupt cellular function and metabolism, potentially leading to health issues and toxicity.

In addition, heavy water is expensive and typically used in scientific research and industrial applications rather than for consumption.

Therefore, it's advisable to stick to regular water for hydration purposes.
