The pancreas functions as both an endocrine and exocrine organ. As an endocrine organ, it secretes hormones such as insulin and glucagon into the bloodstream to regulate blood sugar levels. As an exocrine organ, it secretes digestive enzymes into the pancreatic duct, which eventually reaches the small intestine to aid in the digestion of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats.
