An anti-auxin is a substance that counteracts or inhibits the effects of auxin, a plant hormone responsible for promoting cell elongation, among other growth processes. One such anti-auxin is 2,3,5-triiodobenzoic acid (TIBA). TIBA interferes with auxin transport, thereby inhibiting the processes that auxin promotes, such as cell elongation and division. Other chemicals that exhibit anti-auxin activity include naphthylphthalamic acid (NPA) and PCIB (p-chlorophenoxyisobutyric acid), which also disrupt auxin transport and action in plants.
