A synchondrosis is a type of joint in which the connecting material is hyaline cartilage. This type of joint is temporary and typically found in the growth plates of long bones in children, allowing for growth and eventual ossification (conversion into bone) as the individual matures. An example of a synchondrosis joint is the cartilaginous joint between the ribs and the sternum (costal cartilage).
