Homoiothermy, also known as homeothermy, refers to the physiological regulation of body temperature within a narrow, stable range, regardless of external environmental conditions. This is a characteristic of many animals, especially mammals and birds, which actively regulate their internal body temperature through metabolic processes.

Examples of homoiothermous animals include:

Humans: As mammals, humans maintain a constant body temperature around 37°C (98.6°F), using physiological mechanisms like sweating, shivering, and adjusting blood flow to the skin.

Birds: They also regulate their body temperature, usually around 38-42°C (100-108°F), through processes like panting, fluffing feathers, and varying their metabolic rate.

The ability to maintain a stable internal temperature provides these animals with several advantages, such as the ability to inhabit a wide range of environments and remain active regardless of the external temperature. This thermoregulation is achieved through complex interactions between behavioral responses (like seeking shade or basking in the sun), physiological adjustments (such as changing metabolic rate), and anatomical features (like fur or feathers for insulation).
