What are Akinetes?

Akinetes are specialized, dormant, non-motile cells formed by certain filamentous cyanobacteria (also known as blue-green algae) and some bacteria. These cells are a survival strategy that allows these organisms to endure harsh environmental conditions such as nutrient scarcity, extreme temperatures, and other unfavorable circumstances.
