In this situation, water moves out of the plant cell's cytoplasm due to the concentration gradient, causing the cell's cytoplasm to shrink away from the cell wall. This shrinkage of the cytoplasm away from the cell wall is known as plasmolysis. The plasma membrane remains intact during plasmolysis, and it is not burst or broken.
