In an adult human, there are typically 32 teeth, and these can be categorized into four main types:

Incisors: There are eight incisors in total, with four located in the upper jaw (maxilla) and four in the lower jaw (mandible). These are the front teeth, used for cutting and chopping food.

Canines: Also known as cuspids, there are four canines in total. These are the pointed teeth next to the incisors and are used for tearing food. There are two in the upper jaw and two in the lower jaw.

Premolars: Adults have eight premolars, with four in the upper jaw and four in the lower jaw. These teeth are located next to the canines and are used for crushing and grinding food.

Molars: Including the wisdom teeth (third molars), there are 12 molars in total, with six in the upper jaw and six in the lower jaw. These are the back teeth used for grinding food. If wisdom teeth are removed, which is common, the number of molars reduces to eight.

Each type of tooth plays a specific role in the process of chewing and digesting food.
