The lymphatic system performs several essential functions in the body. Two key functions are:

Fluid Balance: The lymphatic system helps maintain fluid balance in the body by collecting excess interstitial fluid (fluid surrounding cells) from tissues and returning it to the bloodstream. This prevents the accumulation of excess fluid in tissues and helps regulate blood volume and pressure.

Immune Defense: The lymphatic system is an integral part of the immune system. It filters lymph fluid through lymph nodes, where immune cells such as lymphocytes can detect and respond to foreign invaders (e.g., bacteria, viruses) and abnormal cells (e.g., cancer cells). This helps protect the body from infections and disease.
