Reduction division occurs during the first stage of meiosis, which is known as meiosis I. Meiosis is a type of cell division that occurs in reproductive cells (gametes) and reduces the chromosome number by half. Meiosis consists of two consecutive divisions: meiosis I and meiosis II.

During meiosis I, homologous chromosomes separate, resulting in the reduction of the chromosome number by half. This reduction is essential for the formation of genetically diverse gametes. Meiosis II involves the separation of sister chromatids, similar to the process in mitosis, but the chromosome number remains the same as in meiosis I.
