Full Form of ADH

The full form of ADH is Antidiuretic Hormone.

Secreting Gland

ADH is secreted by the posterior pituitary gland, which is located at the base of the brain.

Conditions for Release

This hormone is released when the body is dehydrated or when there is an increase in blood osmolarity, signaling the need to conserve water.

Role in Hypertonic Urine Formation

ADH helps the kidneys reabsorb water from urine back into the bloodstream. This process results in the production of hypertonic urine, which is concentrated and has a higher osmolarity than blood, helping to retain water in the body.

Associated Disease

The disease caused by the failure of ADH secretion is known as Diabetes Insipidus. This condition leads to excessive urination and thirst due to the inability to concentrate urine.
