Dear student
States of matter are the possible ways atoms/molecules arrange themselves in a general object. Usually you think about three states of matter: solid, liquid, gas. On Earth almost everything assumes one of these three states, so the plasma (a ionized gas, composed by charged particles, think about fire or flashes for example) comes after in the conventional order. Otherwise in the outer space, plasma is the most common state that matter assumes (think about stars!). If you are curious about these things, there are also a fifth and a sixth state of matter, the Bose-gas and the Fermi-gas, quantum states obtained in labs a few years ago.
