Dear student,
Metallurgy of copper implies the different extraction techniques employed to extract the pure form of copper from its different ores.
The conversion of copper consists of a series of chemical, physical, and electrochemical processes. Methods have evolved and vary with country depending on the ore source, local environmental regulations, and other factors.
Like it is known that in all mining operations, theoremust usually be first concentrated. To do this, generally theore is first crushed. Then it must be heated in very less quantity of air which is also known as roasting to convert the sulfides present tooxides, which are then smeltedto producematte. Finally, the ore undergoes various refining processes, the final one beingelectrolysis. Generally many of the byproducts of extraction are reclaimed. For example, Sulfur dioxidegas, is captured and turned intosulfuric acid— which is then further used in the extraction process.
