The hindbrain is the lowermost part of the brainstem. It consists of two regions:

1. the myelencephalon, which includes the medulla

2. the metencephalon, which includes the pons and cerebellum.

It bridges the brain with the spinal cord. Function includes respiratory rhythm, motor activity, sleep, and wakefulness etc. The thalamus is situated between the cerebral cortex and the midbrain. Therefore it is not part of the hindbrain. Hence option B is correct.
