In 1997 the Tamil Nadu Maritime Board was formed in accordance with the Maritime Act of 1995. The duty of the board was to administer,control and manage the ports of Tamil Nadu. Complete answer: The three major ports of Tamil Nadu are Chennai, Thootukudi, Ennore. The Chennai Port was formerly known as the Madras port. It is the second largest container port in India.It is the largest one in the Bay of bengal.It is also the third oldest major port. This port is a major reason for the economic growth of Tamil Nadu. The Thoothukudi port was formerly known as Tuticorin. Thoothukudi is known as the ‘Pearl Town’. This is because of the pearl fishing that takes place in the town. The Ennore port is presently called the Kamarajar Port Limited.It is located on the Coromandel coast, 18 km north of Chennai Port. This is the 12th major port in India.The Kamarajar port is known to be the first corporatised port in India. It has only 86 employees. It is also an artificial deep-sea harbour. Thus, The correct answer is Option D. Note: The Marie transport is controlled by the State and Central governments. 95% of India's trading is done through marine transportation. There are a total 13 major ports in India.
