amphoteric oxides are those which react with both acids and bases to give salt and water/ example: Zno (Zinc oxide)

Zno + Hcl ( ACID) → ZnCl2 + H20

Zno + NaOH (BASE)—--> Na2ZnO2 + H2O

Hope it helps

Oxides that act as both acid and base to give salt and water on reaction with base and acid respectively are called as amphoteric oxides. Ex: Aluminium oxide(act as a base) + hydrochloric acid-> Aluminium chloride + water
Aluminium oxide(act as an acid) +Sodium hydroxide->Sodium aluminate+ water
