The nervous system has three main functions:

Sensory Function: The nervous system gathers information from sensory receptors (like those in your eyes, ears, skin, etc.) and transmits it to the brain. This allows you to perceive and respond to stimuli from your environment, such as light, sound, touch, taste, and smell.
Integrative Function: Once sensory information reaches the brain or spinal cord, the nervous system processes and integrates it. This involves analyzing the information, making decisions, and coordinating appropriate responses. It's like the brain's processing center where all the sensory inputs are interpreted and appropriate responses are generated.
Motor Function: After processing sensory information and making decisions, the nervous system sends signals to muscles, glands, and organs to carry out appropriate responses. These signals initiate muscle contractions, glandular secretions, and other physiological actions that enable movement, behavior, and homeostasis.
