Each element is defined by the number of protons it has in its vallence shell.
hydrogen has just one proton .A neutral hydrogen atom has one electron to balence its single proton.
Hydrohen readely forms chemical bonds eith the another atom.
bond are formed by vallence electrons .
As hydrogen has one electron ;that electron must be the vallence electron .
THEREFORE HYDROGEN HAS ONE VALLENCE ELECTRON
