To know the direction of magnetic field produced around a straight conductor-carrying current. Rule used is-Right hand thumb rule’.

The Maxwell right-hand thumb rule indicates the direction of the magnetic field in a direction of the current. If the thumb of the right-hand points along the direction of the current, then the remaining curled fingers of the same hand gives the direction of the magnetic field due to the current.
