Two chemicals commonly used to disinfect water are chlorine and ozone.

Chlorine: Chlorine is a widely used disinfectant for water treatment. It effectively kills a variety of bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms that can cause waterborne diseases. It is often added to water in the form of chlorine gas, sodium hypochlorite (liquid bleach), or calcium hypochlorite (solid granules).

Ozone: Ozone is a powerful oxidizing agent and disinfectant that can be used to treat water. It is generated by passing oxygen molecules through a high-voltage electric discharge, creating ozone gas. Ozone treatment is effective at destroying pathogens and organic contaminants in water, and it leaves no residual taste or odor.
