Any roller will have a curved surface in the middle and have circular shape at both ends. Complete step-by-step answer: Shape of the road roller is cylindrical. A cylinder is a three-dimensional object with two round flat bases and one curved surface. It has a curved surface in the middle. The ends are identical. That means bases are parallel to each and have the same diameter. Assume a cylinder having R as the radius and L as the width. Now, the basic formula involving a cylinder are: Total surface area of the cylinder = area of curved surface + 2*area of circular end = 2π(R)L + 2π(R)2 Volume of the cylinder = area of the circular end * width of the cylinder = πR2×L Note: The curved surface area of the cylinder is the product of circumference of the circular end and the width. In many questions you will need this formula only. Example, for finding the number of revolutions made by the road roller to level the road of a certain area.
