The surface area of a box can be calculated using the following formula:

Surface Area = 2(lw + lh + wh)

where:

l is the length of the box,
w is the width of the box, and
h is the height of the box.
The formula accounts for all six sides of the box: two sides with area lw (length times width), two sides with area lh (length times height), and two sides with area wh (width times height). By adding up the areas of all six sides, we get the total surface area of the box.
