Sugarcane is cultivated in three division belts which are The Sutlej Ganga Plain, The Black soil belt as well as Coastal Andhra and Krishna valley. Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra together contribute to around 66 percent of sugar production. Gujarat ranks four and Tamil Nadu ranks fifth when it comes to sugar-producing states. Uttar Pradesh is considered the second state with the highest sugar mills. It has 155 mills whereas Maharashtra is considered the first state which had the highest sugar mills. It has 195 mills. Uttar Pradesh has the largest cane area of about 50 percent in the country, followed by Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Bihar, Haryana, and Punjab.
