Let the present ages of Pati and Patni be ‘x’ and ‘y’ respectively
Let age of child be ‘z’ years
Now, 5 years before the ages of pati and patni respectively would be:
(x – 5) and (y – 5).
Average will be:
(x – 5 + y – 5 )/2 = 23
x + y = 56 ....................(1)
In present day,
avergae of hsuband, wife and child given as:
(x + y + z)/3 = 20
or
x + y + z = 60 …............(2)
put eqn.(1) in eqn. (2)
.i.e.
z = 60 – 56 = 4years
Hence the child age is 4 years.
