If the difference between the ages of two persons is 8. 15 years ago the age of the elder one was twice the age of the younger one. find their present ages ( with steps please)

Dear student

Let the age = x and y where x>y

Now

x -y = 8

x -15 = 3(y -15)

x -15 = 3y - 45

x -3y = -30

Now solve the equations

2y = 38

Hence y = 19 years and x = 27 years

Let,

Firstperson age=x years,2nd person age=y years

And x>y,

ATQ:-

x-y=8

So x=8+y______(1)

Also,

x-15=2(y-15)_____(2)

Put x=8+y in (2),then,we have,

y+8-15=2y-30

=> y-7=2y-30

=>y=23

Now,x=8+y=31

So 1st person age=31years

2nd person age=23 years
