In democracies, every citizen vote has the same value irrespective of gender, caste, religion, or race. This ensures political equality among its citizens. It is a form of government in which people either directly or indirectly participate in decision making through a system of representation. It involves periodically held elections. The democracy of India is the largest democracy in the world. Authority is enjoyed by people or their representatives and people are the final authority. In modern India, democracy has faced a lot of challenges like Social and economic inequalities, unemployment, corruption, population. Democracy in India continues to get redesigned to meet emerging challenges. To check political defections several provisions have been made in Law. The voting age was brought down to ensure greater participation by the youth of India. Democracy holds a very special place in India. It is derived from the constitution of India. Apart from political democracy, the Indian Constitution also promises social democracy. Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity form a union of the trinity. India is based on the federal structure of government although the word is not used in the constitution itself. Note:India became a democratic nation in 1947. Democracy as said is a government of the people, by the people, and for the people.
