The West Bengal Joint Engineering Entrance Exam (WBJEEE) exam was conducted as a screening test for undergraduate level engineering courses offered by the universities, govt. colleges and private institutes in the State of West Bengal (except the IITs and NITs). The scope of courses you can target through the exam are set to widen from this year.
The West Bengal Joint Entrance Exam 2018 will be conducted to screen students for undergraduate engineering & technology courses as well as pharmacy, architecture, medical and dental courses. Hence, it will be known as "WBJEEM", which is short for the West Bengal Joint Exam for Engineering & Medicine.
Students have to appear for different sets of subjects for WBJEE exam, depending on the streams they choose.
Stream-wise subjects candidates should take:
Type |
Discipline |
Subjects candidates have to appear for |
E |
Engineering, Technology, Architecture, & Pharmacy * |
Maths, Physics, Chemistry |
M |
Medical, Dental, & Pharmacy * |
Biology, Physics, Chemistry |
C ** |
All the streams - Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Medical, Dental & Pharmacy * |
Maths, Biology, Physics, Chemistry |
For Pharmacy course in Jadavpur University, students should have appeared for Physics, Chemistry and Maths. Hence, only E or C type candidates will be able to apply for it. For Pharnacy courses in other colleges, students from both Mathematics and Biology streams are eligible. Hence, all E, M and C type candidates can apply for them.
If C-type candidates apply for Pharmacy course in other colleges, the score of the subject (from Maths or Bio) in which student scores more is used for selection procedure.

Also check the entire data to check that all your details including your photo and signature are correct, when it is published from February to March 2018. In case of any incorrect detail, get it corrected from 26th – 28th January 2018.
Only when all these formalities are complete, you will be able to download WBJEE admit card from April 10, 2018 onwards.
Admit card of WBJEE 2018 is an important document and you should keep it carefully until the admission process gets over.
A candidate will have to appear for three or four subject papers in West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination 2018, depending on the stream they choose. While Biology and Mathematics papers are of two hours duration, Physics and Chemistry papers have an overall duration of one and a half hours. There are breaks of one hour between any two papers that are conducted on the same day.
Types of questions asked in WBJEE question papers are multiple-choice questions with four options each. In each paper, there are three categories of questions.
Category 1 questions have only one correct answer and are worth 1 mark each.
Category 2 questions also have only one correct answer but are worth 2 marks each.
Category 3 questions may have more than one correct answer and are worth 2 marks each. In such questions, full marks are awarded only if all correct answers are marked. If the answer is partially correct, marks are awarded according to the following formula:
Marks awarded = 2 X (No. of Correct Responses marked by the Candidate / Total No. of Correct Responses)
There is negative marking for Category 1 and Category 2 questions. 1/3 mark is deducted from the total score for all Category 1 questions marked incorrect while 2/3 mark is deducted from the total score for all Category 2 questions marked incorrect.
In Physics and Chemistry, there will be 45 Category 1 questions, 10 Category 2 questions and 5 Category 3 questions. In Mathematics and Biology, there will be 60 Category 1 questions, 15 Category 2 questions and 5 Category 3 questions.

WBJEE results 2018 will be published by 5thJune , 2018 and only then, counselling will be held through offline mode in the month of June 2018 will be announced. Counselling procedure for all the engineering and medical courses will take place online.
During e-counselling, a list of participating universities or institutions will be published on the website along with number of seats they have in different branches.
Students will have to indicate their preference for courses and institutes they are interested in.
Seats will be allotted on the basis of merit. Seat allotment depends on number of seats available in a course, number of candidates applying for it, and whether candidates meet all the eligibility criteria.
Do remember:
Architecture students will have to produce the documentary evidence to prove that they have qualified the NATA (National Aptitude Test in Architecture) at the time of counselling. NATA is conducted by the Council of Architecture, New Delhi.
Medical students need to produce a medical fitness certificate from a registered medical practitioner to prove that they are physically and mentally fit to pursue the course.
During counselling of WBJEE 2018, the Board will publish the number of seats available for admission through WBJEEM 2018 and the number of seats under Management quota.\
Students of reserved categories, native of the State, will have to produce related certificates, issued before the date of submission of online application form, to claim the benefits.
Under PwD category, only candidates with 50% to 70% loco-motor disability of lower limbs are admitted. If seats reserved for such candidates are still vacant then those with 40% to 50% disability are also considered. However, all the certificates of PwD candidates will be verified by the Medical Board at the time of counselling.
For Defence Quota seats, e-counselling is not done. A separate merit list is published for such candidates and they undergo offline counselling and seat allotment process.
