Thapar University – Entrance Test for B.Tech (Distance Education)

Thapar UniversityThapar University is one of three educational institutions situated on the 250-acre campus of the Thapar Technology Campus (TTC), in Patiala. The other two are Thapar Polytechnic and Thapar Centre for Industrial Research and Development. Today, Thapar University is recognized as the leading private grant-in-aid engineering institutions and the best in northwestern region of India. It offers both regular and distance education programs.

UGC granted full autonomy and status of a deemed university to the Thapar University in 1985. NAAC accredits it at the B++ level among Deemed Universities with Institutional score of 82%. Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India has set up one of the first eight Centre of Relevance and Excellence (CORE) at the Thapar University and the two have also established a Science and Technology Entrepreneur’s Park (STEP) together.

The B.Tech programs offered by Thapar University for working professionals offer the flexibility of distance education mode with features of on-campus education system. The admission to B.Tech (Distance Education) programs is based on the Entrance Test conducted twice a year – once in February or March, and again in August or September.

Benefits of the Thapar University Entrance Exam

The Thapar University Entrance Exam offers a gateway to the B.Tech programs offered by the Distance Education Department of the Thapar University. It uses multimedia advancements and latest communication technologies to offer education to motivated and committed students who are not able to attend traditional classes due to their family and work responsibilities. B.Tech programs through distance mode are available in following streams:

  • Civil Engineering

  • Computer Science & Engineering

  • Electrical Engineering

  • Mechanical Engineering

B.TechSoon, the university is going to offer Master of Computer Applications (MCA) through distance mode. The programs aim to open up new career options for working professionals and help them to keep up with the changing technology as well as help in developing technical manpower to keep up with the industry demand. Thapar University allows admission to its modular and cost effective B.Tech programs through entrance test only.

Open only for working professionals, it does not have off-campus study centers or franchisee arrangement. Instead, it offers self instructional material developed by renowned professors, online classrooms, practical lab sessions at local engineering colleges or at the Thapar University campus in Patiala, applied assignments with case studies, Personal Contact Program (PCP) for laboratory work and allow live interaction with faculty, and academic counseling. The duration of a B.Tech program is six semesters or three years but the maximum duration allowed is twelve semesters or 6 years.
