The National Institute of Technology, Puducherry also known as NIT PY, is India’s one of the newly formed NIT situated at Karaikal in the union territory of Puducherry. It is established as a part of the 11th five year plan by the Government of India. The institute is presently functioning from the Arignar Anna Government Arts and Science College, Nehru Nagar, Karaikal as the construction of the college building is under process. The students are admitted on the basis of the ranks of JEE mains. From the available seats 50% of the seats are reserved for the candidates of the home state of Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe, and Yanam.

Admission into the UG Engineering Programs at National Institute of Technology, Puducherry are carried out on the basis of ranks of students appearing the JEE Mains. The CSAB (Central Seat Allocation Board) conducts the admission procedure for the Indian candidates on the basis of all India rank in JEE. CBSE prepares the merit list by allotting 40% aggregate to the class 12th Board or equivalent and 60% to the JEE (Main) Examination performance. For the students of Indian Origin or Non-Resident Indians under the DASA (Direct Admission of Students Abroad) are also allowed to take admissions in the NITs.
