Suddenly a vehicle comes with a high speed! BAM!! It just collapsed with a tree &amp; you are saved. Thank God!<\/p>\n<p>You are safe because you gave immediate reaction &amp; saved yourself. How come this happened? You saw, your brain got activated &amp; gave response.<\/p>\n<p>Today\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s article is all about it. Yes about the activity of the brain. I am going to tell you about all parts of brain &amp; what function they show. So <strong>use your brain to learn about brain<\/strong> J<\/p>\n<p>Brain is largest &amp; most complex organ of the body. It is a part of central nervous system. Billions of nerves &amp; trillions of joints (synapses) are present in brain. Almost every activity shown by us is controlled by brain.<\/p>\n<p>Well Guys! Four important regions of brain are mentioned below.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Cerebrum<\/li>\n<li>Cerebellum<\/li>\n<li>Limbic system<\/li>\n<li>Brain stem<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Brain consists of 3 parts viz. forebrain, midbrain &amp; hind brain.<\/p>\n<p>Parts of <strong>forebrain <\/strong>are cerebrum, thalamus &amp; hypothalamus. Tectum &amp; tegmentum are the parts of <strong>midbrain<\/strong>. Cerebellum, pons &amp; medulla constitute the <strong>hindbrain.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.askiitians.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Brain-1.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-9512 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.askiitians.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Brain-1.jpg\" alt=\"Brain-1\" width=\"580\" height=\"408\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now let\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s discuss about different regions of brain \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u20ac\u0153<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cerebrum<\/strong> \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u20ac\u0153 It is the largest part of brain. Higher brain function such as thought &amp; actions are controlled by it. Cerebral cortex is divided into 4 regions or lobes which are: Frontal lobe, parietal lobe, occipital lobe &amp; temporal lobe.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.askiitians.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Brain-2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-9509\" src=\"https:\/\/www.askiitians.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Brain-2.jpg\" alt=\"Brain-2\" width=\"349\" height=\"364\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now let me tell you functions of these lobes (Fig B):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Frontal lobe <\/strong>\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u20ac\u0153 It is associated with functioning of reasoning, planning, emotions, parts of speech &amp; problem solving capabilities.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Parietal Lobe<\/strong> \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u20ac\u0153 It is associated with sense of touch, pain &amp; temperature. It helps in distinguishing between shape, size &amp; color. It controls spatial &amp; visual perception.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Occipital lobe<\/strong> \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u20ac\u0153 All visual processing is controlled by occipital lobe.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Temporal lobe<\/strong> \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u20ac\u0153 It\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s associated with speech, memory, hearing, sequencing &amp; organization.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You know guys cerebral cortex is highly wrinkled. \u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0And because of this fold, brain is highly efficient. Surface area of brain is increased with more of the neurons in it. \u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0If you want to get more into it, jump in to this <span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #ff6600;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #ff6600; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.askiitians.com\/biology\/neural-control-and-coordination\/nervous-system.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Cerebrum is divided by a deep furrow forming left &amp; right symmetrical hemisphere. \u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0Both hemispheres function somewhat different. \u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0Right hemisphere controls creativity &amp; left hemisphere controls logic abilities. A bundle of axon known as <strong>Corpus callosum <\/strong>connects these two hemisphere.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.askiitians.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Brain-3.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-9510 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.askiitians.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Brain-3.jpg\" alt=\"Brain-3\" width=\"445\" height=\"318\" \/><\/a>Two surfaces are present in cerebrum viz. grey &amp; white surface. White surface acts as the interface between nerve cells of brain &amp; other parts of the body.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cerebellum<\/strong> \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u20ac\u0153 It\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s the \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00cb\u0153little brain\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2 &amp; present at the back of the head (Fig B). As like cerebrum, it has two hemispheres which are highly coiled. This part of the brain controls voluntary movement such as balance, posture &amp; movement.<\/p>\n<p>Damage to the cerebellum may cause lack of balance or slower movement.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Limbic system <\/strong>\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u20ac\u0153 It\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s known as \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00cb\u0153emotional brain\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2. It is buried within the cerebrum. This system consists of thalamus, hypothalamus, amygdala &amp; hippocampus.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s take a look now to the functions of each part of this limbic system \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u20ac\u0153<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Hippocampus<\/strong> -It plays an important role in memory, emotions &amp; learning.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Amygdala <\/strong>\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u20ac\u0153 It controls eating, drinking, sexual behavior &amp; aggression.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Hypothalamus<\/strong> \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u20ac\u0153 It monitors hormones, blood pressure, salt &amp; glucose levels.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Thalamus<\/strong> \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u20ac\u0153 It controls sleep, consciousness, sensory interpretation &amp; also awake states.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.askiitians.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Brain-4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-9511\" src=\"https:\/\/www.askiitians.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Brain-4.jpg\" alt=\"Brain-4\" width=\"338\" height=\"327\" \/><\/a>Brain stem <\/strong><strong>\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u20ac\u0153 <\/strong>It is present underneath the limbic system. \u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0Basic vital functions such as heartbeat, breathing &amp; blood pressure are controlled by this system. According to scientists, brain stem is the simplest part of brain as according to evolutionary stage it was form earlier in reptiles.<\/p>\n<p>Pons, medulla &amp; part of mid brain are present in brain stem. \u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0Let me tell you their functions too.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Pons<\/strong> \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u20ac\u0153 It is associated with sleeping, dreaming &amp; walking functions.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Medulla Oblongata <\/strong>\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u20ac\u0153 Certain automatic functions such as breathing &amp; heart rate are controlled by it.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Midbrain<\/strong> \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u20ac\u0153 It helps in processing of visual &amp; auditory data.
