It comes under the category of invertebrates of Kingdom animals. Yes! I am going to tell you good information of this phylum.<\/p>\n<p>Phylum Coelenterata <strong>(Cnidaria) <\/strong>include aquatic, marine, sessile or free living organisms. \u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0This Phylum includes approximately 9000 species. Cnidarians are animals; it was proved by <strong>Peyssonal<\/strong> (1723) &amp; <strong>Trembel<\/strong> (1744)<\/p>\n<p>Why name<strong> Cnidaria? <\/strong>It is because of the name of<strong> cnidoblasts or cnidocytes <\/strong>which are present in the tentacles of the body. Cnidocytes constitute the defense body of coelenterates. It also helps in capturing the prey.<\/p>\n<p>Now let\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s study about certain features of this phylum.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>They have tissue level of organization.<\/li>\n<li>They are diploblastic except few. Epidermis is the external body layer. Gastroderm is formed from internal germ layer which is endoderm.<\/li>\n<li>They possess radial symmetry.<\/li>\n<li>Digestive cavity is known as <strong>gastro-vascular cavity<\/strong>. Digestive system is incomplete. Here, incomplete means it consisted of single opening which act as anus and mouth both.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tentacles<\/strong> are present near the mouth.<\/li>\n<li>No special system for excretion &amp; respiration is present.<\/li>\n<li>Both <strong>sexual <\/strong>&amp; <strong>asexual<\/strong> types of reproduction occur.<\/li>\n<li>Body\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s components include <strong>polyp<\/strong> &amp; <strong>medusa (Figure)<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>They show alternation of generation<\/li>\n<li>In some species, polyp or medusa is absent.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.askiitians.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/PCA-1.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9335\" src=\"https:\/\/www.askiitians.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/PCA-1.jpg\" alt=\"PCA-1\" width=\"604\" height=\"428\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Confused about polyp &amp; medusa? Not an issue! let me tell you this too. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Polyp \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u20ac\u0153 <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>They are fixed &amp; rarely free.<\/li>\n<li>Their body is cylindrical with a <strong>stalk<\/strong> (Hydra)<\/li>\n<li>Velum (bordering membrane) is absent.<\/li>\n<li>Sense organs are also absent.<\/li>\n<li>Gonads absent.<\/li>\n<li>Asexual reproduction occurs by budding.<\/li>\n<li>Radial &amp; circular canals are absent in gastro vascular cavity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Medusa-<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>They are free swimming &amp; are present in open water.<\/li>\n<li>They have umbrella like body with reduced stalk structure.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Velum<\/strong> is present<\/li>\n<li>Sense organs (tentacles) are present.<\/li>\n<li>On radial canals, four gonads are present<\/li>\n<li>Sexual reproduction occurs.<\/li>\n<li>Stomach, four radial canals. One circular canal is present in gastro vascular cavity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0<\/strong>Let me tell you now, the categorization of<strong> Phylum Cnidarian<\/strong>. It is classified into<strong> 3 classes<\/strong>. \u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0Here let\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s take a look.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Hydrozoa \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u20ac\u0153 <\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>The dominant part of their body is polyp &amp; it is formed by budding. Medusa may also be present.<\/li>\n<li>They are multi cellular diploblastic animals<\/li>\n<li>Polymorphic tendency is present.<\/li>\n<li>Gonads are also observed in hydrozoa.<\/li>\n<li>They have 6 orders. Viz<strong>.
