{"id":5267,"date":"2014-08-08T17:52:22","date_gmt":"2014-08-08T12:22:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.askiitians.com\/blog\/?p=5267"},"modified":"2014-08-08T17:52:22","modified_gmt":"2014-08-08T12:22:22","slug":"cm-intervention-gets-girl-student-admission-nit-calicut","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.askiitians.com\/blog\/cm-intervention-gets-girl-student-admission-nit-calicut\/","title":{"rendered":"CM Intervention Gets Girl Student Admission Into NIT-Calicut"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.askiitians.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/43-copy.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5268 aligncenter\" title=\"CM Intervention Gets Girl Student Admission Into NIT-Calicut\" alt=\"CM Intervention Gets Girl Student Admission Into NIT-Calicut\" src=\"https:\/\/www.askiitians.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/43-copy.jpg\" width=\"700\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The efforts of Chief Minister Oommmen Chandy bore fruit as he lobbied for the sake of a single girl student.\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 Keerthana, from Thiruvananthapuram, whose mother is a sweeper, brother is an MBA graduate and who does not have a father, cleared the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.askiitians.com\/iit-jee\/main\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">JEE entrance examination<\/a> with a sixth rank in the OBC category.\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 When she went to NIT-Calicut for admission into the MSc Physics course on June 25<sup>th<\/sup>, she was denied a seat as her chaste certificate had crossed the six-month validity period.\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 Pleas with the NIT-C authorities failed to cut any ice.<\/p>\n<p>On being approached, the Chief Minister promised his attention, and spoke to the NIT-C authorities.\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 The administration, however, still denied admission to the student.\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 The Chief Minster then approached the Union HRD Minister Ms. Smriti Irani.\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 On her directions, the Chairman of the NIT council sent a fax to the Director of NIT-Calicut to create a special seat for Keerthana.\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 The Chairman cautioned, however, that the measure was a one-time exception, and could not be made a rule.\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 The seat has been created in the OBC (non-creamy layer) category.<\/p>\n<p>The student will be reporting to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.askiitians.com\/top-engineering-colleges\/nit-calilut\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NIT-Calicut<\/a> on Monday to take admission to te MSc.
