As per reports from Chennai news sources, IIT\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Madras<\/a> seems to be out of favour for toppers of the JEE Advanced this year.\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 IIT \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Madras admission processes have taken a hit, as few out of the top 100 have opted for the institution.\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 Experts surmise that the IIT \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Madras address may be a reason for the low admission, as location preferences play a major role in the admission process.<\/p>\n

The common perception is that IIT-Madras students face a disadvantage during placements, because of the location of the institution, Chennai education channels report.\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 Mumbai is considered the industrial hub, and hence students having a choice of opting for IIT \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Madras reject the institution.\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 This is one of the reasons that IIT Mumbai sees the highest admission; this year too, the topper of the JEE Advanced has selected Computer Science in IIT Mumbai.\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 He scored 334 out of 360 in his JEE Advanced.\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 Several other toppers have also opted for IIT Mumbai.<\/p>\n

Although IIT Madras is among the original seven IITs of the country, it has been unable to attract the top talent.\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 Owing to its German collaboration, Mechanical Engineering is one of the best courses in the institution.\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 Another very popular course is electrical engineering.\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 However, the IIT \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Madras location seems to be working against it.<\/p>\n

A senior professor at IIT Madras pointed out that a very major influence on the admission process is the guidance received at the coaching institutes, most of which are located in Kota or Hyderabad.\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 Hence, inspite of the excellent courses offered at IIT \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u20ac\u0153 Madras no student takes a risk.\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 Most students are guided to take admission in IIT Mumbai as it would be closer to the students’ hometown.<\/p>\n

Another senior professor pointed to the quality of faculty members, stating that even one faculty can pull admissions, if he is known in the academic circles for his excellence and contribution.<\/p>\n
