\"Is<\/a>All right!\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 With one more survey out last year (2013) on ranking of engineering institutions, the Indian engineering aspirations were put to test once again. Those who were seriously looking forward to be an imposing part of the BITS Pilani <\/a>league were left puzzled suddenly at the last moment with the survey\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s top five slots occupied by the hallowed IIT institutions. Although BITS Pilani blessed the fourth slot on the same survey in 2012, it dropped to the sixth slot in 2013.<\/p>\n

Surveys take into account a lot of features of a particular engineering institution to rank them. So when a survey releases its study, engineering aspirants take a notice and go with their decisions accordingly. Considering this, surveys do affect the reputation of engineering institutions both positively and negatively. There are other interesting surveys to back this theory. However, we are here to concentrate on why BITS Pilani dropped in its ranking on the survey that bad despite quality engineering curriculum it offers to students.\"BITS<\/a><\/p>\n

The top five slots on the survey were occupied by IIT-Madras<\/a>, IIT-Kharagpur<\/a>, IIT-Kanpur<\/a>, IIT-Delhi<\/a>, and IIT-Bombay<\/a>. Although BITS Pilani has been the toughest competition for IITs since its inception, the popularity of IITs amongst people of India and abroad has remained unprecedented. There is one more interesting survey to prove this.<\/p>\n

In the survey comparing IIT-Madras and BITS Pilani, over 75% students still prefer IIT-Madras over BITS Pilani while only a little over 24% prefer BITS Pilani over IIT-Madras. The survey also revealed a study in which India Today ranked IIT-Madras on the 4th<\/sup> position as the best engineering institution while on its ranking BITS Pilani ranked at 6th<\/sup> position.<\/p>\n

In the Outlook ranking, IIT-Madras features on the 5th<\/sup> position while BITS Pilani is ranked at 8th<\/sup>. \u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0On the other hand, Dataquest ranked IIT-Madras on the fourth slot while BITS at 9th<\/sup> position. The overall ranking of IIT-Madras was 5 while it was 7 for BITS Pilani.<\/p>\n

So the aforementioned facts reveal the story behind the downfall of BITS Pilani on the first survey we were discussing about. Preference of students over IIT-Madras and other IITs over BITS Pilani depends on a lot of features. Surveys however are not always an ideal benchmark of quality education but to some extent they impact the overall reputation of a particular education institution.<\/p>\n
