Being a senior teacher she was amongst who would sit in the Biology Lab, rather than the usual teachers staffroom.<br \/>\n<em>Vidhya Chatterjee <\/em>: One of my classmates, Batch Holder \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u20ac\u0153 Blue House. She was among those who I would wait for a chance to tease &amp; cause trouble. I was just crazy in those days. And unfortunately one day she became the \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00cb\u0153Target\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2.<br \/>\n<em>Prashant Datar<\/em> : Another classmate, Tennis was his favourite sport, had moustache in those days, we would call him \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u201cMangal\/Pandey\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u009d because of his resemblance to a character in movie \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u201cMangal Pandey\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u009d starring Aamir Khan as a freedom fighter of the 1875 Revolt.<br \/>\nMe: Very Inspired from recently released \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u201cRang De Basanti\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u009d again starring Aamir Khan. It became to be a cult youth movie. Now, this might sound a little immature as well as filmy, but co-incidentally we were studying about the Indian Freedom Struggle in Social Sciences.<br \/>\nIt was that time of the year, when Mumbai witnesses monsoon at its peak.<br \/>\nAnd I\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2ll introduce the rest, as in when they appear in the narration.<br \/>\nEnjoy Reading.<br \/>\n<em><strong>Day 1 &#8211; Thursday \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u20ac\u0153 Social Science Class<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\nWe had been given some assignment which was due for submission the next day. Radha ma\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2am had instructed us to keep the notebooks in the biology lab before the morning assembly, as she had planned to correct them and give us the notebooks back on the same day in her scheduled class.<br \/>\n<em><strong>Day 2- Friday &#8211; The Submission day<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\nAs a good student I, most of us \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u00a6 This counted me as well, who had completed the assignment went and kept the notebooks in the biology lab teacher\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s room.<br \/>\nWhile going to the morning assembly, I met my pal \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u20ac\u0153 SriKrishnamurti and Prabakar (a.k.a Anna) too joined us.<br \/>\nNow, Srikrishnamurti being a studious student could never stop discussing studies anywhere. I would even imagine him sometimes reading textbook even when he must in the toilet.<br \/>\nWhereas Anna was a happy-go-Lucky type, whom I went along were well.<br \/>\nSriKrishnamurti: \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u201cGunti, what did you write for the last question of the assignment?\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u009d<br \/>\nThe last question was an open question; we had to express our views on the pessimist &amp; extremist in the Indian National Congress.<br \/>\nMe: \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u201cExtremist bro, isn\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2t it obvious?\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u009d<br \/>\nSriKrishnamurti: \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u201cI should have guessed it\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u009d.<br \/>\nAnd as said, Bhagat Singh and Chadrashekhar Azad were my idols.<br \/>\nMe: \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u201cAnna, join me \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u00a6. Inqualab \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u00a6. \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u201c<br \/>\nAnd he used to compete this slogan by saying aloud: \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u201cZindabad\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u009d<br \/>\nWe were a so loud that many students, who were walking ahead of us in the line towards the morning assembly ground, used to look back as to know what had happened.<br \/>\nAgree! I was a crazy teen back then. But, I enjoyed being one, a unique student, wanted to live life as I wanted, learn by practice as teachers said, and I was doing the very same, memorising history while walking for assembly.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Day 2 \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u20ac\u0153 The Class<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\nWe were waiting for ma\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2am for 5 minutes now, but there she was nowhere to be seen.<br \/>\nAfter a few more minutes passed by, we saw Mr Tilak enter the class.<br \/>\nMr Tilak used to work as an assistant to the co-ordinator of the school. By then, we already had guessed that Radha ma\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2am was not in school.<br \/>\nMr Tilak: \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u201cRadha ma\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2am is sick today, so could not make it to school today. And unfortunately, we don\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2t have a substitute teacher at the moment. Co-ordinator ma\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2am has instructed the batch holders to take charge of the class\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u009d.<br \/>\nThe batch holders:<br \/>\nVidhya &#8211; introduced earlier.<br \/>\nAnd we had Miss Ruchi Shinde \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u20ac\u0153 Batch holder of Yellow house &amp; lifelong companion of Vidhya. They both were the BFF \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u20ac\u0153 Best Friends Forever literally.<br \/>\nSo Ruchi &amp; Vidhya took over the class. Accha, I was the black board monitor for that particular week. So, I had to clean the backboard after each class, make sure our stock of chalks never ended. It actually never did.<br \/>\nWHY : We played chalk fight every other day and I made sure that after an interval of two days I go &amp; fill up the stock from the School Office.<br \/>\nOne day, the supervisor in officer even asked me.<br \/>\nSupervisor: \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u201cBeta, I see you come here to take the chalks every other day.\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u009d<br \/>\nMe: \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u201cKya Karein sirrr, we are in 10th, have lots of studies going on these days. May be teachers are preparing us well for our pre-board examination and of course the boards.\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u009d<br \/>\nSupervisor: \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u201cYou better be doing that\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u009d. Giving me a grin and might be thinking \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u20ac\u0153 Beta, Maine bhi Dassvi padhi hai\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u009d [I too was a student one day; I know what you are up to with these chalks.]<br \/>\nMe: \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u201cSure sir\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u009d. Then, I ran back to class smiling &amp; giggling.<br \/>\nWhile I see Vidhya leaving with Saurabh somewhere, may be to medical, as he was asthmatic. And then Ruchi took over the charge. She stood at the podium and kept a watch on us so that we maintain silence.<br \/>\nAnd I just needed a trigger to have some fun in class, but in a proper manner, not crossing my limits, I did sometimes though, which was coming soon.<br \/>\nI stood up from my seat, went towards the podium, grabbed the duster and started my duty \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u20ac\u0153 to clean the board. After finishing the task, I took a chalk from the box and the show thus begun.<br \/>\n\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u201cBaccho, Today we\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2ll revise Sandhi \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u20ac\u0153 Vicched [Combination of Words to form a new word in Hindi]\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u009d<br \/>\nStudents were busy chatting, some were reading, all turned towards me to join in.<br \/>\nI, then, turned towards the board and wrote down:<br \/>\n\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u201cVIDHYA + AALAYA = VIDHYALA\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u009d which translates as \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u201cEducation + Center = School\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u009d<br \/>\nAnd by now, you might have guessed, it was a set up for Miss Vidhya Chatterjee.<br \/>\nAll burst into laughter, and suddenly I see the girl herself &amp; assisting her was Saurabh, entered the class with bundle of books.<br \/>\n\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u201cGUNTIiiiii, wait, I\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2ll see you\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u009d.<br \/>\n\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u201cWhy, you got something in your eyes, which is making it difficult for you to see. Wait let me clear your eyes baccha\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u009d.<br \/>\n\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u201cGo and sit\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u009d, sternly she ordered.<br \/>\nThis time she gave me a DON\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2T MESS WITH ME LOOK, so I squeezed myself to my seat making no further sound.<br \/>\nAnd a moment later, she announced:<br \/>\n\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u201cRadha ma\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2am is not here, take your copies (Assignment Notebooks) back\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u009d. And so we got our notebooks back.<br \/>\nThe next day was a half day, we had to attend some function in the Auditorium, for which we were supposed to get attendance. Schools are so smart these days, they want students to attend school, simply make attendance compulsory.<br \/>\nAnd poor students had \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00cb\u0153fear\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2 in them of falling short of attendance, and then there are some \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00cb\u0153fearless\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2 who stay back and chill at home. And I was the part of the first lot \ud83d\ude1b<br \/>\nNow, this might sound contrary to the teaching of my idols \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u20ac\u0153 the freedom fighters, but I still had to inherit the characteristics into my personality, which would take time.<br \/>\n<strong><em>Day 3: The Auditorium<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\nThis was not the first time that such a thing happened. The \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00cb\u0153Fearless\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2 always stayed back, relaxed or studied at home was not the question, it was to bear the boring ceremony\/lecture that we had to attend. So, half of the class was never seen.<br \/>\nThe good part was that, the entire batch holders had to be present \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u20ac\u0153 to do their job, grab the corner seats towards the pathway and do what they were best at \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u20ac\u0153 Nothing, Ha Ha, and yes sometimes to help in maintain the decorum of the auditorium.<br \/>\nTo my surprise, as I stepped in the auditorium, I was welcomed by Ruchi.<br \/>\n\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u201cLo, Bhagat Singh aa gaya. Gunti, please forgive me today. We\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2ll continue our Knockout in classroom, not here\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u009d.<br \/>\n\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u201cJaa, Forgiven\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u009d. I smiled and passed by.<br \/>\n<em><strong>At Home the same day:<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\nSince it was a half day, while packing my back, I just had to remove the textbooks &amp; notebooks. While removing them, I came across the Assignment (Social Science) notebook, and decided to keep it so that I may go back to school, about a kilometre walk from auditorium, keep the notebook in the Biology lab and head back home.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Back in Auditorium:<\/strong><br \/>\nWhile there were some students dancing on the stage, my mind wandered on the assignment notebook and was planning on its action and post consequences. I knew, hardly anyone would have got the notebook; there were students who even did not bring a bag for the half day.<br \/>\nSo, even if I assume that I was the only one with the notebook, and go and keep the notebook, I would come in ma\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2am notice and gain a little appreciation while she would scold the whole class for not submitting the notebook on time.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>A Word about Mrs Radha Mohan:<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/em>A Tamilian, had lots of experience of class 10th Social Sciences, was strict, disciplined, punctual and systematic in her teaching.So, I was sure that something bad was going to happen in Monday\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s class. And I had somebody to be blamed \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u20ac\u0153 Vidhya ; for bringing back the notebooks to class, even when she was not asked to.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Day 3: D \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u20ac\u0153 Day, At School<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\nThe day started as usual. The whole time standing for the morning assembly I was planning and collecting points for my defence for the supposing \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u201cBig-Fight\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u009d.<br \/>\nSo, let me not take your more time, and let\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s go forwards to SSC class at 10am.<br \/>\nThe class had 3 columns arrangement of seating; I had my seat in the middle one, 3rd from the front.<br \/>\n<strong>10:02am<\/strong><br \/>\nChorus: Goood Mooorning Ma\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2am<br \/>\nRadha Ma\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2am responded in not so good tune. It was a hint of calmness before a strong thunder &amp; storm.<br \/>\nMa\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2am: \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u201cOkay, sit\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u009d<br \/>\nChorus: Thaaank Yooou Ma\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2am<br \/>\nYes, this tradition of wishing our teachers was kept alive even in grade 10th.<br \/>\nRadha Ma\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2am did not ask us to open our books as usual today, she had something else in mind, and I knew what exactly was cooking.<br \/>\nMa\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2am: \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u201cI am really upset &amp; angry for what all you have done.\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u009d<br \/>\nStudents started starting at each other. What could be this matter about? My bench partner Devesh whispered,<br \/>\n\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u201cI hope it\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s not Giri\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u009d.<br \/>\nPrashant Giri, who, once corrected his copy himself forging ma\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2am signature. Everything was perfectly done, until ma\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2am noticed and realised that she never uses a black pen for correction. It had to be either green or Red.<br \/>\nWhen asked why he couldn\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2t use a Red\/Green pen, he casually said that he was too lazy to buy one, and there was a submission due the very next day.<br \/>\n\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u201cHa ha, I too hope not\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u009d.<br \/>\n\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u201cChildren, how many times do I have to remind you that you all are in 10th class, you have boards, when will you get serious about studies.\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u009d Radha ma\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2am said in her typical English with a flavour of Tamil [Tamil &#8211; A South Indian Language].<br \/>\nShe continued<br \/>\n\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u201cDid not I clearly ask you all to submit your assignment notebooks on my desk on Friday morning\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u009d.<br \/>\n\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u201cYes Ma\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2am\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u009d, soft chorus from us.<br \/>\n\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u201cThen, where are they?\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u009d<br \/>\nAnd the war begins. I took the lead.<br \/>\n\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u201cMa\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2am\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u00a6\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u009d. Taking good opportunity of the moment<br \/>\n\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u201cMa\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2am, we are all sincere student. Most of us completed the assignments on time and also kept the notebook in Biology lab.\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u009d<br \/>\n\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u201cThen, where are they?\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u009d<br \/>\n\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u201cBut, ma\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2am the same day Vidhya went to the lab, got all the notebooks and returned them\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u009d. And there was my first punch. \ud83d\ude1b<br \/>\n\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u201cVidhya, please explain\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u009d.<br \/>\nVidhya stood and defended my punch.<br \/>\n\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u201cMa\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2am, since you were not there in school that day.\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u009d<br \/>\nAnd then, she tried to take ma\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2am on her side. She continued\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u00a6<br \/>\n\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u201cAnd, since its monsoon, I have always seen that window in the lab does not close properly. There could have been a chance that the notebooks could have got wet, and therefore I brought them back\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u009d.<br \/>\nOhh\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u00a6That one came straight on my face.
