Every year the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and Department of Secondary and Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) conducts the JEE Main/Advanced (known as AIEEE till 2012) (All India Engineering Entrance Examination) for engineering aspirants who wish to seek admission to various Engineering, Architecture, Planning and Pharmacy programs across top JEE Main/Advanced colleges and institutes in India. Through JEE Main/Advanced, candidates get access to various IITs, NITs and state level engineering colleges and institutes across India.
As per previous year’s data, about 9 Lakh candidates appeared for JEE Main/Advanced. This year, JEE Main/Advanced has introduced the online examination on the lines of other competitive examinations such as CAT, MAT. While majority of the candidates are expected to participate for the conventional offline examination, about one Lakh candidates are expected to appear for the JEE Main/Advanced 2012 online examination. A maximum of 5000 candidates will be allotted to a given center in a city on first come-first serve basis.
