History

With over 65 years in its credit for imparting technical education and boasting of a strong modern educational environment and academic staff, the Delhi College of Engineering is in par with engineering education in India ever since its establishment. DCE is known to provide its students with up to date educational facilities while at the same time retaining traditional values. With its strong industrial contacts it has the added advantage for its students to contend in the global arena. DCE constantly reforms itself, refurbishing its physical infrastructure and research and education facilities keeping in par with the modern developments around.

Established in the year 1940 as a Delhi Polytechnic, the technical school was establish with a vision to cater to the demands of the Indian industries by introducing courses in Arts, Architecture, Commerce, Engineering, Applied Science and Textiles. 1962 saw the coming of the administration of Delhi Polytechnic under the Delhi State, changing the entire system of administration from different disciplines to single institutes addressing specific areas. The Department of Arts was changed to College of Arts and the Department of Commerce and Business Administration was satirized into individual institutes of Commerce and Secretarial Practices. The Delhi Polytechnic from 1965 came to be known as the Delhi College of Engineering. Thereafter, it saw the opening of Bachelor of Engineering courses in Civil, Electrical, Electronics and Mechanical Engineering. The last two decades saw the introduction of CEE Entrance test and the shifting of the campus to a larger, more sprawling area of 164 acres (0.7 km2) near the Bawana Road in North Delhi.
 

Campus

Delhi College of Engineering was on the Kashmere gate campus in the heart of Old Delhi. It moved to the present campus at Bawana in 1995, and the new campus formally started imparting education for all four years of study from 1999. The new campus boasts of latest facilities with a state-of-the-art library system, a centralized computer center, a sports complex, a total of 11 hostels for both boys and girls, a married couples' hostel and also residential facilities for faculty and staff.

Hostel

The College Hostel Committee allots the accommodation for the students, the applications for which are submitted in the prescribed form. There are Five Boys Hostel; Bhaskaracharya Hostel, Sir CV Raman Hostel, Sir JC Bose Hostel, Barahmihir Hostel, and Sir Visvesvarayya Hostel with a total capacity to accommodate 880 students. There is one Girls Hostel, the Sister Nivedita Hostel with a capacity to accommodate 69 girl students. Then there is one married couples’ Hostel which has a capacity to accommodate about fifteen students. The hostel provides 24 hours electricity and water supply, with internet facilities also available in the premises. There is a attached mess system in the hostel.

​Cultural Activities

Keeping with the tradition of most colleges in India, Delhi College of Engineering, too, organizes cultural and academic festivals the major cultural festival being Engifest held annually in the month of February. Resonance is a cluster of assorted literary and managerial events which serves as a stage for showcasing the talents of the students in fields other than science and engineering. Arena is the annual Sports Meet, and Virasat is a host of cultural events organized by SPIC MACAY. Troika is the annual technical festival organized by the IEEE student of DCE, the Mechanical engineering department is associated with Innova, and Mach, organized by the student chapters of SAE, ASME and ASHRAE. Tatva is the annual technical symposium organized by the Department of Polymer Science and Chemical Technology in association with SPE. Then there is another festival, Technodrome, which is organized by the SOCCE Student Branch. Other notable events include "Panache", a multimedia quiz drawing the maximum participation of any college quiz, and "Spave", the annual managerial event.

Alumni:

Delhi College of Engineering boasts of a large group of successful engineers, leaders, and innovators among its alumni, Vinod Dham, who led the Pentium project at Intel, being the most famous. The Alumni Association of Delhi College of Engineering is an active organization with its chapters in India and abroad that annually holds a meet to socialize and network. is also an event to recognize distinguished alumnus.
