History:

The Dr B R Ambedkar, National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar is a leading premier independent university in northern part of India. The NIT, Jalandhar is one of the youngest among the 20 NITs of India. Founded in 1987, as a joint project between the Government of India and the Punjab Government, on the 17th October 2002 the institution got the status of NIT, National Institute of Technology (Deemed University) by the Indian Govt. under the control of Ministry of Human Resource Development, New Delhi, India. NITJ is a leading institute of quality and excellence, ranking it 4th among all the NIT’s. The institute offers B.Tech program in 9 disciplines of Engineering and Technology. It also has research programs for MTech and PhD.

Campus:

NIT, Jalandhar has such resources as a central seminar hall, computer lab, gymnasium, open air theater, and library and security services. The institute has separate hostel facilities for girls and boys with enough capacity for about 1300 students.

Hostel:

The hostels in the campus are in total 1300, with 2 girls' hostels having a capacity of 252, and the 6 boys' hostels having a capacity of 1050.  Every hostel has its own mess which is supervised over by the students themselves. The residential accommodation in hostels comprises of cubicles and dormitories of three seater.

Cultural Activities:

‘TechNITi’, is a techno-management fest, usually conducted during the odd semester during the last week of September drawing participation from colleges all over India and SAARC countries. Then there is the ‘Utkansh’, a cultural fest, which is conducted during the even semester and participation is again drawn from the entire student community in India and is considered as one of the major highlights on the Institute’s calendar.

The graduates along the years have been a long list of impressive professionals in technological fields all over the world leading the masses in a race in bringing forward the best that the tech world has to offer.
