The Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education, Dharamshala came into existence in 1969. Besides conducting the examinations for class 10th and 12th, the board also stipulates syllabus, courses and text books for school education in Himachal Pradesh.

The Board conducts examination for the following classes and courses: 10, 10+2, J.B.T and T.T.C
Around 5 Lakh students appear the Himachal Pradesh Board exams annually.
The board constitutes around 8000 affiliated schools
There are around 1650 examination centers throughout the state
Apart from a Liaison Office at Shimla, there are around 19 Sale Book Depots/Information Centers in Himachal Pradesh to cater to the needs of students.
