All about How to Ace Class 10 English Exam

English is a subject where students generally lack preparation due to other mainstream subjects. But, in today's world where markets are fast globalising English stands out as an important subject/language which students should not deprioritise. English Paper pattern

  • Section A (20 marks): Thisincludes reading comprehension wherein two unseen passages will be provided. These passages can be literary, factual or discursive to test comprehension skills. Also, note making is provided in this section.

  • Section B (20 marks): This is the section where the writing skills are put to examine. Many forms of writings such as letter writing, notice writing, article writing, poster making, etc. are included in this section.

  • Section C (20 marks): This section is meant to test the student's grammar skills.

  • Section D (20 marks): This section is based on literature and poems.

While NCERT does remain an important book that a Class X student cannot choose to ignore, there are some other books from which the students can practice the questions and sample papers.

  • Preparation tipsPractice by writing out every answer as writing will help you analyse your grammatical as well as spelling mistakes and help you improve on them.

  • One must read the chapters out loud. Doing this will not only help you memorise the answers and important points but also give you a clearer understanding of the language.

  • Do try and write about topics which are trending in the news as it will help you improve your style of writing and learn new terms.

  • You can prepare flash cards to remember the names of various authors and characters.

  • It is important to read every poem and chapter at least once and answer all the questions given at the end of the chapter/poem.

  • One must solve previous year papers/ sample papers to get familiar with the questioning pattern and to be able to identify your weak points.

  • Always time yourself while answering the sample papers as it will help you manage time during the exam.

  • Try and revise as many times as you can.

  • Also, try and finish chapters which you fine easy to understand as it will boost your confidence.

  • Read NCERT books regularly as CBSE board exam question papers are completely based on this book.

  • Do not start a new chapter/topic at the last minute. It’s better to revise the topics/chapters which you have already completed.

English cannot be studied in a day, practicing it through writing, reading, listening and speaking is the best way to gain mastery over the language. You must aim to enjoy and your aim of scoring will come true automatically.
