The Female Reproductive system consists of:
Primary sex organ i.e. a pair of ovaries(Produces female gametes called ova)
Secondary sex organs i.e. a pair of fallopian tubes (oviducts) , a uterus (womb), a vagina.
FSH stimulates the ovarian follicles to produce oestrogens.
LH stimulates corpus luteum to secrete progestrone.
Menstrual phase is caused by the increased production of oestrogens.
LH causes ovulation
Proliferative phase is caused by the increased production of oestrogens.
Secretory phase is caused by increased production of progestrone.
Phase in women’s life when ovulation & menstruation stop.
Occurs between 45-55 years of age.
Theory1- As a result of changes in pituitary gland & hypothalamus.
Theory2- Decline in oestrogen & progestrone level.
