Though they have the name, the brand name rather, the recognition by the govt., the support and the respect of millions of Indians, the new IITs still don’t seem to be able to charm the best of the teachers. As sanctioned by the HRD ministry, each of the new IITs- Jodhpur, Patna, Gandhi Nagar and others were supposed to have 90 teachers by now. Unfortunately, none of them have been able to achieve that number. Surprisingly, many of them have not even reached a third of their full capacity yet. Going by the response of the officials in this regard, the young Ph.D. (s) also, though interested in teaching, are keener on joining the established IITs as compared to the new ones. If not having been allocated the land they need to build their own campuses was not enough, the problem of finding the quality teachers is just adding to the hindrances in way of the new IITs.
