After having a glorious history of more than 160 years IIT-Roorkee has been given the responsibility by the government of India to mentor IIT-Mandi in Himachal Pradesh. The IIT Mandi foundation stone was laid on 24th Feb 2009 at Kamand Mandi. IIT Mandi is one of the 8 new IIT’s established by the government in India. The co-ordinator of the IIT Mandi cell will be Dr. S.P Gupta who is the professor of electrical engineering in IIT Roorkee.
The Institute is offering three B-Tech Programme in the following fields :
* Electrical Engineering * Computer Science & Engineering * Mechnical Engineering
The Central government has sanctioned 40 seats for each stream.Since the number of students appearing for the exam has increased many folds the government has increased the number of IITs in India. Vallabh Government College is where the IIT Mandi’s classes would start initially as told by the State’s Technical education Minister Narender Bragta.
