IIT to Remove Ceiling Fans to Curb Suicides

Finally after a long trial of the facts and figures about the suicides in Indian Institutes of technology, the four-member team at IIT-Kanpur, probing the suicide of Madhuri Sale ( Civil Engineering student), has come with a plan to promote haelp and thus prevent suicides in hostels by replacing ceiling fans with pedestal fans.

In the last five years, eight IITians have committed suicide while five of them hanged themselves in their hostel rooms. As another issue it has been decided to end the allotment of single rooms to students. Now, a student shall be alloted a single room from the second year.

A four-member committee comprising Prof Mukesh Sharma, Prof Omkar Dixit, Prof A K Ghosh and member of the student gymkhana, C Rahul, was given charge to probe the reasons.
