Sol. The balanced chemical reaction is : 2MnO_4^- + 5CO_4^(2-) + 16H+ → 2Mn2+ + 5SO_4^(2-) + 3H2O ∵ 5 moles SO_4^(2-) reacts with 2 moles of KMnO4 ∴ 1 mole SO_4^(2-) reacts with 2/4 mole of KMnO4.

The reaction will be
2KMnO4 + 5 H2SO3 --> K2SO4 +2 MnSO4 +2 H2SO4 + 3H2O
As 5 mole of sulphite reacts with 2 mole of  KMnO4
Then 1 mole will react with 2/5 mole of KMnO4

Dear Student

The Balanced equation will be
2MnO4 + 5SO32− + 6H+ → 2Mn2++ 5SO42− + 3H2O

So, according to the reaction, number of moles of KMnO4that will be needed to react with one mole of sulphite ion in acidic solution is 2/5.

I hope this answer will help you.
Thanks & Regards
