Si is the member of group 14 and hence can form 4 bonds. When it is doped with group 13 elements ,the holes will be created in the lattice since there is no fourth electron available for sharing. The holes will lead to electrical conductivity and the crystals thus formed are semiconductors. Also if it is doped withgroup 15 elements ,an extra electron of group 15 will remain unbonded which will lead to electrical conductivity.
