Let us cosider two molecules of Ethylene.
we can think it as we have to break two c-c double bond and we have to form four c-c single bond.
Now breaking of bond requires energy(endothermic) but forming of single bonds will release the energy(exothermic).
Now for one mole we need to break one mole c-c double bonds and have to form two moles c-c single bonds.
So net energy released during polymerisation of one mole of Ethylene=(2*331-590*1) kJ=72kJ/mol
