I am unable to calculate the oxidation no. MOST OF THE TIME THE OXIDATION NO THAT I GET USING FORMULA IS NOT CORRECT. I HAVE TRIED TO CALCULATE OXIDATION NO USING STRUCTURE BUT HOW DO I KNOW THAT THE THAT I HAVE MADE IS CORRECT???

Donot try to calculate the oxidation number by structure , formula one is very easy ,
u just need to remember some formula and rules .
  1. 1-The oxidation number of a free element is always 0.
    2-
  2. The oxidation number of a monatomic ion equals the charge of the ion.
  3. 3-Fluorine in compounds is always assigned an oxidation number of -1.
  4. 4- The alkali metals (group I) always have an oxidation number of
    +1.
and oxygen generally have -2 , but not in peroxide and other cases ,
all the rules are well explained in the ncert textbook ,of class 11th redox reaction chapter .
kindly go through that and ask if u hv any perticular doubt .
    ALL THE BEST ..
