Sigma bond:- Sigma bond is a a covalent bond which results from the formation of a molecular orbital by the end-to-end overlap of atomic orbitals, and is denoted by the symbol σ.Every single bond is a sigma bond.213-1073_bonding.jpgPi bond:-Pi bond is a covalent bond which results from the formation of a molecular orbital by side-to-side overlap of atomic orbitals along a plane perpendicular to a line connecting the nuclei of the atoms,.It is denoted by the symbol π.A double bond contains 1 sigma bond and 1 pi bond.A triple bond contains 1 sigma bond and 2 pi bonds.
213-78_bonding.pngFor example, in acetylene, H-C≡C-H, the sigma bond is formed by the head-on overlap of two sp orbitals. The pi bonds are formed by the side-on overlap of 2p orbitals. Thus it will have 1sigma and 2pi bonds, while if we take ex- of ethene molecule containing double bond ,it will have 1sigma and 1pi bond.

Whereever you see a single line between two atoms it can never be a pie bond keep this in mind
