Molecular mass = 2 × vapour densitySo, molecular mass of sample compound is 44u.Now, find out the empirical formula of the compound.NOTE- When the percentage sum of the constituent atom is not 100 then remaining is OXYGEN Carbon is 54.7% means 54.7g carbon is present. So, moles of carbon,I.e., 54.7/12 is 4.6 mol.Similarly, moles of hydrogen and oxygen are 9.1mol and 2.3mol.To find the no. Of atoms of each element in empirical formula divide their moles with smallest mole.I.e. 2.3mol is smallest. So by dividing moles of carbon by 2.3 you will get 2.Similarly for hydrogen and oxygen is 4 and 1 respectively. So, empirical formula is C²H⁴O.Also. Molecular formula = empirical formula × mass of molecule/mass of empirical formulai.e. molecular formula = C²H⁴O × 1 = C²H⁴OIt is ETHANAL.
